Gio Linh, Quang Tri (22 February 2024) — Responding to an emergency call on Thursday from Trung Hai Commune in Quang Tri Province, an NPA/RENEW Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team safely detonated a five-inch projectile found in a new fishpond under construction in Xuan Long Village.

Major Nguyen Thanh Vinh, Head of Commune Public Security, alerted the Quang Tri Mine Action Center after local villagers discovered the projectile while digging. Commune police secured the area and instructed the villagers to stop work until the EOD team arrived.

Team leader Hoang Kiem Chien takes final steps before directing his team members to destroy the ordnance.
The blast of the five-inch projectile detonation captured from the team’s control point.

Upon arrival, NPA/RENEW team leader Hoang Kim Chien assessed the situation and directed his team to safely remove the projectile from the fishpond for disposal. Once the operation was complete, local villagers were able to resume their work.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the governments of the United States of America and Norway for continuing support of this critical work. Together, we are making Quang Tri safe from the impact of unexploded bombs and mines.
