Dong Ha, Quang Tri (21 October 2020) — From 19 to 20 October 2020, representatives of RENEW/NPA Workers Union visited the families of our staff members whose houses had been heavily affected by the flood that occurred last weekend.
Totally 40 families of RENEW/NPA staff members residing in Vinh Linh, Gio Linh, Cam Lo, Trieu Phong, Hai Lang, Quang Tri Town and Dong Ha (Quang Tri Province) and Phong Dien (Thua Thien Hue Province) were submerged in floodwaters. The most submerged house was two meters. Many families suffer damaged electric appliances and livestock and crop loss.
The RENEW/NPA Workers Union representatives made it to most of the affected families (excluding two residing in Trieu Phuoc Commune and Gio Mai Commune isolation due to floods) to provide emergency aid from the Workers Union’s fund and contributions from non-affected staff members with the hope of helping affected colleagues quickly overcome their difficulties caused by floods.
The RENEW/NPA Workers Union representatives completed the visit that lasted for nearly two days and returned to the office safe on Tuesday afternoon.
Project RENEW was established in 2001 as a joint effort between the government of Quang Tri Province and interested INGOs to “restore the environment and neutralize the effects of the war”.
Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) has worked in Vietnam since 2007 and collaborated with national and provincial authorities to implement capacity development, survey and clearance projects in Hanoi, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue and Quang Binh provinces.
