Story:

Lê Hùng Thịnh is a 17-year-old Vietnamese student with a big dream: to become a graphic designer. Despite facing disability challenges, which his family and neighbors believe are the result of Agent Orange used during the American war, Thịnh has tried to keep up with his peers in school.  He recently finished the 11th grade. However, his aspirations extend beyond graduation. He wants to build a career that allows him to support himself and ease the burden on his family.

Thịnh’s father suffers from a disability linked to family history (his grandfather’s exposure to Agent Orange in 1968), and his mother works tirelessly as the family’s only breadwinner. His older brother, who was born in 2002, is on track to become a teacher in two years.  Thịnh, however, desires a different path, taking into account his health conditions. He sees graphic design as a field where his creativity and determination can shine.

The Missing Piece:

One important piece of equipment stands between Thịnh and his dream: a laptop. This computer would be Thịnh’s gateway to learning design software, honing his skills, researching trends, and ultimately, turning his dreams into a successful career. His own laptop would bridge the gap between Thịnh’s potential and his aspirations.

This laptop idea is an item that has not been included in any RENEW budget line. It was suggested by several RENEW staff, discussing Thịnh’s needs, who agreed to chip in their own pocket money and ask others to contribute small change. They have now collected 2.3 million VNĐ (about $92 USD) toward the purchase price, itemized below.
