Hai Lang, Quang Tri — On October 21, 2024, the Veterans For Peace (VFP) Chapter 160 delegation consisting of 18 participants visited the Blind Association of Hải Lăng District as part of their two-day working visit to Quang Tri Province.

Blind Association Chairman Tran Huu Loi briefs the delegation members during their visit.

During the meeting, Mr. Trần Hữu Lợi, Chairman of the Blind Association of Hải Lăng District, shared the history of the Association’s founding and the process of constructing its facilities, which began in 2003. Through Project RENEW, the Association has received support in organizing vocational training courses, workshops, as well as assistance in purchasing incense and broom-making machines for production activities. Additionally, Project RENEW, with funding from The John Younger Trust (UK), is currently supporting the construction of a kitchen adjacent to the main building, providing a space for members to cook and take care of their living needs while participating in production at the Association.

VFP Chapter 160 President Mr. Chuck Searcy emphasized the efforts of Project RENEW in supporting the Hải Lăng Blind Association in particular and other Blind Associations across the province in general. During the visit, members of the VFP delegation also toured the production area where incense and brooms are made, and took time to inquire about and encourage the members. The delegation hopes to continue providing practical support in the future to improve the living and working conditions of the Association.

The Association’s members make incense to earn independent income with support from Project RENEW.

In the conversation, Mr. Lợi also shared additional concerns about the Association’s deteriorating infrastructure. The Association’s restrooms are damaged, with only one functional restroom remaining. The backyard area is prone to flooding, affecting production activities.

The Blind Association of Hải Lăng District hopes to receive timely support from VFP members and other donors to raise funds for roof repairs, restroom renovations, and upgrades to the backyard area to ensure stable working conditions, without disruptions caused by harsh weather.
