A Household of Ten, a Heart of Strength
In Village 9, Nam Cua Viet Commune, Quang Tri Province, Ms. Hoàng Thị Hiền manages a household of ten people spanning three generations. Her daily life is a testament to extraordinary resilience. As the primary caregiver, she supports her husband, Mr. Trương Văn Lợi—a veteran who served at the Cam Ranh naval base and the Spratly Islands before suffering a stroke—and their son, who lives with cerebral palsy. Despite these heavy responsibilities, Ms. Hiền has remained a steadfast pillar for her children and grandchildren.
Transforming Livelihoods
In September 2025, Project RENEW, with the generous support of donors Dick Schmitt, Susan Hammond, and the Unlimited Possibilities, provided Ms. Hiền’s family with a livelihood grant. This assistance allowed the family to repair their livestock pens and invest in pigs and chickens as a sustainable income-generating activity.
The results were immediate. By early 2026, the family had already successfully sold their first batch of livestock, providing vital income to support their large household. Today, the pens are thriving again as they raise a new brood in preparation for the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tết). This stable income source provides more than just food; it provides the family with the security they need to navigate their challenges.
Hope for the Future
At Project RENEW, we believe that supporting a caregiver’s livelihood is an investment in the next generation. A bright light in the household is Ms. Hiền’s granddaughter, Bảo An. An outstanding student for eight consecutive years, Bảo An loves drawing and dreams of becoming an English teacher. By stabilizing the family’s economic foundation, we ensure that bright, hardworking students like Bảo An can continue to pursue their education and their dreams.
We are deeply grateful to our partners for their compassion and for proving that when we empower one family, we create a ripple effect of hope for the entire community.
