Quang Tri, July 11, 2025 – Project RENEW, in collaboration with the Youth Union branches of the former districts of Vinh Linh, Cam Lo, Trieu Phong, Hai Lang, and Huong Hoa, organized a Closing Conference for the Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) Project for the 08/2024 – 07/2025 period.

Reflecting on Results and Adapting to a New Administrative Context

The conference brought together nearly 30 participants, including commune-level Youth Union officers, teachers, and community collaborators who have directly supported EORE activities over the past year. Participants reviewed key achievements, shared lessons learned from practical implementation, and discussed new challenges and opportunities amid the recent administrative restructuring in Quang Tri Province, which has adopted a two-tier governance model: provincial and commune levels.

The restructuring is not simply a change of boundaries—it calls for new strategies to coordinate, reach communities, and maintain an effective and sustainable risk education network.

244 Outreach Events – 35,631 People Reached

Between 2024 and 2025, Project RENEW worked with local partners in Quang Tri and Quang Ngai provinces to organize a total of 244 EORE outreach events using various formats, ranging from school-based activities and youth group sessions to mobile communication campaigns. These efforts helped deliver safety messages to 35,631 people, with a special focus on children and residents living in areas previously contaminated by explosive remnants of war.

Commitment to Local Partnerships and Forward Planning

During the conference, participants also put forward practical recommendations to strengthen EORE efforts in the coming period. These included the sustainability of community-based reporting networks, greater engagement with youth, and enhanced coordination with local authorities under the new administrative structure.

Project RENEW expressed sincere appreciation for the generous support of the Embassy of Ireland, the project’s primary donor, as well as the dedicated cooperation of the local Youth Union system.

With a strong foundation of collaboration already in place, Project RENEW is committed to working alongside local partners to build a safer environment for children and communities in Quang Tri and other central provinces of Vietnam.
