Gio Linh, Quang Tri (6 February 2023) — NPA/RENEW on Monday officially handed over 130 hectares of land that have been cleared of dangerous explosive ordnance to the local authorities of Gio My Commune, Gio Linh District for the community’s safe use.

In the meeting at the headquarters of Gio My Commune People’s Committee, NPA/RENEW Provincial Operations Officer Le Hoai Niem joined Quang Tri Mine Action Center’s operations management team to hand over the clearance completion dossier to Gio My Commune authorities. Consisting of a site handover certificate and a completion report with maps and coordinates, the dossier confirms that 1,327,738 square meters of land in An My Village are now free from explosive ordnance and ready for safe use and further development.

Speaking on behalf of Gio My authorities and local beneficiaries, Chairman Mai Van Sam thanked NPA/RENEW for the support to clean up contaminated areas in his locality.

“This significant amount of safe land will help boost the local people’s economic development through agricultural activities and other development projects,” said the Chairman. “Our local officers have now been assigned to manage the handover dossier and make sure that local people are well informed of this safe land area for their further development.”
