Gio Linh, Quang Tri (5 July 2023) — Clearance teams managed by Norwegian People’s Aid/Project RENEW on Wednesday discovered more than 200 pieces of unexploded ordnance while clearing a contaminated area in Ha Loi Trung Village of Trung Giang Commune.

NPA/RENEW Operations Manager Mai Van Viet and Vietnam National Mine Action Center (VNMAC) Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) instructors directed VNMAC trainees who were in the final week of an EOD Level 1 Course with NPA/RENEW to participate in the identification of the explosives.

All the munitions which had been confirmed as save-to-remove items were later transported by NPA/RENEW EOD team to the central demolition site for safe destruction. Starting in early April 2023, NPA/RENEW deployed four teams to clear a confirmed hazardous area of 1,153,304 square meters defined during the technical survey. The teams were expected to complete their work by the end of August.
