At Project RENEW’s Mine Action Visitor Center in Quang Tri, Vietnam, a powerful message of hope and unity resonated as young people from India, Vietnam, and Korea came together to sing “Blowin’ in the Wind,” the timeless anthem of peace and social change. These young voices, representing nations with their own histories of conflict, joined in harmony to remind us of the importance of healing the wounds of war and building a brighter future.

“Blowin’ in the Wind,” written by Bob Dylan, has inspired generations to strive for a more just and peaceful world. This moving performance at the Mine Action Visitor Center underscores the vital work of Project RENEW and other international partners in addressing the devastating legacies of unexploded ordnance in Vietnam. For over two decades, Project RENEW and our partners have been clearing land contaminated with unexploded bombs, educating communities, and supporting survivors and persons with disabilities, working tirelessly to create a safer and more prosperous future for all.

This video is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of collaboration. It highlights the importance of cross-cultural understanding and the shared commitment to peace that unites people across borders.

The following video was broadcast on the Vietnam Television’s Good Deeds show in July 2017. In this video, the VTV crew shadowed NPA-RENEW female operators in their search of unexploded cluster bombs and other explosive remnants of war (ERW). The ERW Survey and Clearance of NPA-RENEW is funded by the U.S. Department of State.

Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) is one of the leading organizations worldwide in humanitarian disarmament. NPA has worked in Vietnam since 2008 following the signing of an MOU with the government of Quang Tri People’s Committee to support the development of Project RENEW’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) capacity. NPA’s operational footprint now covers all of Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue Provinces, with an increase of assets to two Battle Area Clearance teams, one Non-Technical Survey team, four EOD teams, and 21 Technical Survey teams. 

Project RENEW was established in 2001 as a joint effort between the government of Quang Tri Province and interested INGOs to “restore the environment and neutralize the effects of the war” – with the main focus on unexploded ordinance.

Vinh Linh, Quang Tri (Jan 04, 2018) – Responding to an emergency call from the Vinh Thach Commune authority, a mobile EOD team of RENEW-NPA today safely removed a U.S. naval shell and transported it to the demolition site for safest destruction. Earlier, 70-year-old fisherman Ho Ngoc Sum found the shell on the beach and immediately reported his discovery to the authority.

Khe Sanh, Quang Tri (21 April 2017) — More than 40 students from the primary school of Tan Long Commune, Huong Hoa District have recently experienced a lively and entertaining extra-curriculum activity at the former Ta Con Airstrip in Khe Sanh Town.

The activity was co-implemented by Project RENEW and Huong Hoa District Youth Union and school teachers. The students were taken to visit the historical relic which is located about 15km from their school. Through the visit, school children learned about the history and received instructions on how to avoid deaths and injuries caused by unexploded landmines and other munitions.

Trieu Phong, Quang Tri (13 April 2017) – Mobile teams managed by Project RENEW and Norwegian People’s Aid today destroyed a 500lb American bomb that might be dropped here some forty years ago in Linh An Village of Trieu Trach Commune. Some metal collectors found the bomb and when they were attempting to sell it for scrap, the local authorities came to hall their reckless action and later called Project RENEW/NPA for emergency assistance.
